The blockchain can solve problems of the Chinese pharmaceutics

Scandal because of low-quality vaccines in China has provoked a number of discussions on social networks how the technology of a blockchain could prevent current situation and as it is possible to use a blockchain in this area in the future.

ChangChun Changsheng Bio-technology – the pharmaceutical firm which is based in Girin is accused of sale about 252 600 units of the vaccine DTP (AKDS – the combined vaccine against diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus) doubtful quality. According to the message of South China Morning Post, it has occurred shortly after it was revealed that the company forged data on about 113 000 low-quality vaccines against rage.

Several pharmaceutical companies have been involved in production and sale of a large amount of the low-quality vaccines DPT and most of them still remain unpunished. For this reason before the Chinese parental community there was a question – how to protect the children and itself?

The idea that the blockchain can provide more effective dissemination of data on vaccines has arisen shortly after an incident with the vaccine against rage has occurred.

The computer programmer under a nickname of @wstart has begun studying of this question at the forum V2EX, the Chinese analog of Reddit. According to him, having spent about 14 hours for production and coding of data, he could find problem vaccines in 30 provinces. During this process he has found out that to find necessary information it has appeared surprisingly difficult, at the same time a part it remains inaccessible for broad masses.

After that the cryptocurrency community of China has begun to consider a blockchain as the potential solution of this problem.

Combination of data
Li Xiaolai, the famous cryptocurrency investor of China, one of the first beginnings a discussion about introduction of a blockchain in pharmaceutical branch.

In the article in WeChat he claimed that the technology is capable to help to provide transparency of movement of medicines on a chain of deliveries – from producers to hospitals which extend them.

The author of the anonymous comment which has appeared on the website Jianshu, has told that the blockchain “is demonized” by people because of the scandals connected with sale of tokens. However, as he claims, people have to remember that the blockchain in itself is just technology.

The idea of use of a blockchain by the Chinese firms in the field of chains of deliveries isn’t new. Such companies as and Walmart already introduce technology for tracking of supply of food.

Last week Zhipeng Cheng, the financial expert of the Chinese company China Finance Online, has offered more detailed plan of use of a blockchain in the pharmaceutical industry.

He claims that, using technology of a blockchain, National Institutes on control of products and drugs (NIFDC) will be able to create open network for check of production and to expand her use for tracking of vaccines. He has noted that institutes and the organizations can join open network. Chen is sure that China has to “accept and use technology of a blockchain for the benefit”.

From the idea to the embodiment
Local media assume that the movement in this area has already begun. On July 24 state has reported to media of Beijing News that several blockchain companies of China have reacted in the profiles of social networks to the developed discussion about how to make vaccines safer.

However not all with enthusiasm have treated this concept. Last week the question of whether “the crisis of confidence can solve a mathematical algorithm”, has been set by the commentator on DoNews – the Chinese website devoted to technologies. In record it was claimed:

“The technology of a blockchain can’t put an end to production of low-quality vaccines. It would be difficult to change even the status quo because work of this branch is deeply centralized. It is simply awful “black box”. Nobody can be sure on the present as internal activity of the company, there will be no serious problems yet. When it occurs, her “system” will give you some “data” which will force you to feel the fool”.

Then the author has come to a conclusion that the blockchain is only technology which can’t solve much more complex social problems which have deeply taken roots in the Chinese society.

One more article of July 23 has appeared on the Chinese Quora version – Zhihu. Her author has also doubted a possibility of introduction of a blockchain from the technological party. According to him, people can’t guarantee authenticity of initial information:

“For example, information on production of vaccine can be false still before she gets to a blockchain”.

Nevertheless, last week it was reported that at least one company – YLZ Info – has said that it plans to create a blockchain platform for the solution of problems of tracking of vaccines.

Censorship in operation
The comments given above say that on the Chinese social networks the serious discussion concerning application of a blockchain in pharmaceutical branch was developed. However the current problem of the state censorship complicates understanding of that, debates outside newspapers and messages in blogs are how detailed.

For example, “blockchain” and “vaccine” doesn’t show to Weibo search results according to keywords that demonstrates concealment of such messages. The original article which has received the name “King Vaktsiny” and disclosing details of latest scandal is blocked on the Chinese social networks now. Nevertheless, as shows Etherescan, someone has forever placed it in Efirium’s blockchain. On the website – – it is noted to the online platform of the Chinese cryptocurrency community:

“on July 22, 2018, at 2 hours 49 minutes 54 seconds the article “King Vaktsiny” has forever been written down in the block 6007493. It can be a small step in the world of a blockchain, however it can sometime become huge jump in the history of mankind”.

Earlier this week it was reported that residents of China had to address Efirium’s blockchain for criticism of activity of the government and the state corporations. One of authors of the forbidden material has sent himself 0,001 ETH (about $0,47), having added to transaction metadata the text about low-quality vaccination.
